Benign Dictators
So then, today I had a lecture by Jim MacDonald and he spent the first 15 min appologising to the class. He had given a lecture before and he Dissed Australia because we don't have a bill of rights and he said that the Australian parliament was a benign dictatorship, and the only reason we had a decent system was because the politicians were nice and didn't want to be like that. So some random person with too much free time sent in an email complaining and said that he was belittling out values and beliefs and our system and that he acted as if he came from a more supieror place (USA). So he appologised and said it might be because he said that the education system was different and in the US they were expected to do thier reading before class and participate in a class discussion. BUT THAT WASN"T IT. he said his critisism should be considreed more of a differences thing, not a hirachy thing. BUT HE CALLED THE AUSTRLIAN GOVERNMETN A DICTATORSHIP! how is that not a hirachey thing!!!!!!!! He just didn't get it...
